OVI column density plotted against NHI for radiatively cooling gases for CIE, CINe isochoric, CINe isobaric, PIE, PINe isochoric, and PINe isobaric. The z=0.2 HM01 EGB is assumed for photo-ionised cases. The gas is assumed to be solar metallicity and the cloud mass is 106 solar masses. Colour indicates temperature, symbol shape indicates density, and symbol size indicates cooling time. A cooling gas will spend more time where the symbol is large, meaning that many of the strong OVI columns at intermediate temperatures (105-106 K) are short-lived.
